Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection includes a ledger from a Richmond, Kentucky grocery store in the early 1900s. The ledger lists accounts for all the people purchasing from the store thus documenting the economy of Richmond at the time. It also documents the education of Frances Mason Samuels.

The bulk of the ledger documents merchandise sold and accounts paid. The last pages were used for tax records in the 1940s.
Folder 1: Samuels Family Documents, 1926-1942Add to your cart.
Class photos for Frances Mason Samuels as well as report cards from Canton Public Schools, Eureka Public Schools (seventh grade), and Madison County Schools (seventh grade through twelfth grade). There are diplomas from Red House High School and Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. The class photos are from a school in Canton, Ohio where she attended from first through sixth grades. There are telegrams from her aunt Frances Wertz to her mother regarding her grandmother's illness and death.

Includes photographs, news clippings, correspondence and memorabilia from a cruise to the Panama and a Madison County Farm Directory which has been partially used as a scrapbook. The people named in these documents include W. Overton and Rachel W. Harber, Leoti Hardin and Si Minter. A brief document detailing the children of John B. Raine is also included.
