Item 1: Manchester, Kentucky After Occupation by Guardsmen, 1 Feb 1935

Aerial view of Manchester showing soldiers and army trucks on Main Street. The troops were ordered there by Governor Laffoon in an effort to break up an alleged automobile theft ring.

Item 2: Kentucky Penitentiary Abandoned, 29 Jan 1937

Flood waters forced evacuation of the inmates of the Kentucky State Prison at Frankfort, but not before prisoners rioted. Here guards are patrolling the prison camp set up in tents outside the prison.

Item 3: Water Behind Kentucky Prison Walls, 28 Jan 1937

Governor A.B. Chandler announced abandonment of the Kentucky State Prison after returning from the inauguration of President Roosevelt to find water behind the walls of the prison. A total of 2,900 convicts were evacuated to jails and buildings in other towns. Twelve prisoners were reported to have been either killed or drowned.

Item 4: John Lair, Sep 1952

John Lair, presiding personality of CBS radio's "Renfro Valley Sunday Gathering," tried out a banjo, one of the large collection of contemporary and antique musical instruments played by the talented residents of the Kentucky valley where the program originates.

Turning the crank will draw water from the cistern pump at Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.

Item 6: One-Room School, 12 Jan 1964

This one-room school is similar to those in scores of remote mountain communities of the Appalachian region. This one, in Kentucky's southeastern area, serves as the educational center for pupils in grades one through six.

A hospital car that will procede a shipment of nerve gas rockets from the Blue Grass Depot at Richmond for burial at sea.

Item 16: Concrete Encased Chemical Weapons Warheads, 8 Aug 1970

Shown are some of the concrete encased M55, 115 mm rockets armed with deadly GB chemical warheads that will be shipped by rail early next week to Sunny Point, NC.

Item 17: Munitions Train Leaves Depot, 10 Aug 1970

A munitions train carrying 3,372 nerve gas rockets leaves the Lexington-Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, KY, en route to Sunny Point, NC. The concrete encased gas rockets are to be loaded on a ship there, taken 253 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, and dumped in 16,000 feet of water. The 11 open-top freight cars were accompanied by medical and security personnel.
