Scope and Contents of the Materials

This ledger contains recipes for remedies for common ailments of the time. Some of these include pneumonia, diabetes, frost bite, bronchitis, scarlatina and many more. One notation at the end mentions that he began boarding with Dr. Thomas March 28, 1887.

Biographical Note

Dr. John Lewis Price was born 20 April 1835, the son of Dr. Andrew B. Price and Evelyn Watkins Price. He married Anna T. Keas in 1861 and they had two children, Isaac and John F. Price.

Dr. John L. Price graduated from the University of Louisville in 1860  and practiced medicine in Mercer County for many years. Many of the men of the Price family were doctors.
