Scope and Contents of the Materials

This is a small collection of postcards written to various members of the Johnson family with images from Richmond, Lexington and Winchester, Kentucky. All the cards have short notes on them that mention jobs, dances, stripping tobacco and catching rides home.

Collection Historical Note

Most of these postcards were written to members of the William and Sarah Johnson family. William and Sarah's children were John Milton, Clara, Ethel, James W., Leonard and Mary L. Johnson. Mary married Kenneth Golden whose brother was Elmer. The only postcard that cannot be linked to this family is one written to Thomas McCowan.
