Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Folder 1: Baker: This folder contains many different correspondence as well as family group sheets, notes on ancestry, and photocopies of ___________. What makes this one different, however, is that there is an inquiry from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Folder 2: Bales: Includes correspondence between Vockery and Amy Goldman as well as a photocopy of the last will and testament of William Hamilton.
Folder 3: Baldwin: Many family group sheets. There a also two photocopies, both of which are deeds (but are most likely for two different pieces of land.) There are also ancestry notes, photocopies of obituaries, and a letter from Celeste Baldwin to Vockery.
Folder 4: Ball: Contains family group sheets, notes on ancestry, and two correspondence (one between Vockery and Ronald Hill and another between Vockery and Bernita Kinsler, which has a family group sheet included.)
Folder 5: Ballew: Includes a photocopy of Ballew Bible Records, a family group sheet, correspondence between Vockery and Lois Barnes, Vockery and Charles Klein, and an inquiry from Barry Schwoerer.
Folder 6: Ballinger: Family group sheets, ancestry notes, photocopies of newspaper articles and the last will and testament of Achilles Ballinger, and correspondence.
Folder 7: Banta: This folder consists of correspondence, family group sheets, ancestry notes, and a photocopy of what appears to be a deed.
Folder 8: Banton: This contains an original contract between George S. Smith and William Banter. There is also ancestry records and a copy of some pages from a book about Huston J. Banton that was written by his son, Oliver Terrill Banton.
Folder 9: Barbour: Include photocopies of an inventory, two contracts, a commissioner's report settling the Barbour estate as well as correspondence between Vockery and Michael C. Mills and correspondence between Vockery and Benny Barber.
Folder 10: Barclay: Family group sheets, correspondence, and photocopies of a newspaper article from 1944.
Folder 11: Barker: This folder includes family group sheets, correspondence, ancestry notes, photocopies of a summons, divorce papers, and deeds.
Folder 12: Barnes-Turner: Correspondence, family group sheets, notes on ancestry, photocopies of various documents.
Folder 13: Barnett: Multiple correspondence and family group sheets. Also includes ancestry notes, and photocopies of newspaper articles and deeds.
Folder 14: Bates: Contains only correspondence. One between Vockery and Christine McNeel, and another between Vockery and Jim Maize. There is also a letter to an Albert Grimm from Vockery along with a note.
Folder 15: Batterton: This folder contains correspondence between Vockery and Kraig W. Ruckel and another correspondence between Vockery and Lola Mae Farmer. Along with these are many family group sheets.
Folder 16: Baugh: Includes correspondence between Vockery and Maxine B. Erwin and letters from Janet Parris that includes notes. This folder also contains family group sheets.
Folder 17: Baughman: Correspondence between Vockery and Samuel C. Durham and another between Vockery and Elizabeth Browder. This folder also contains ancestry notes, and a photocopy of a note written by William Owsley giving permission for her daughter to marry Henry Baughman.
Folder 18: Baxter: Correspondence between Vockery and Nancy O'Bannon that includes ancestry notes and family group sheets.
Folder 19: Beach: Includes two letters. One between Vockery and Anne Watt. Another was between Vockery and Jim Harriman. Also contains ancestry notes and family group sheets.
Folder 20: Beasley: Contains letters from Bill Beasley to Vockery. Also includes another letter from a Norma M. Beasley, correspondence between Vockery and a Robert T. Ponthieu, family group sheets, ancestry notes, and photocopies of a census record from 1870, a marriage bond, an article about the Beasley Cemetery, a certificate of death for a James Beasley from 1914, and grave information.
Folder 21: Beaumont: Includes family group sheets and a note to Vockery from a Melanie Medlin.
Folder 22: Beck: Correspondence between Vockery and Dorothy McAree as well as correspondence between Vockery and a Laura Rinderknetcht (this correspondence also contains a family group sheet and the first page of a "Descendants of William Beck" packet.
Folder 23: Bell-Anderson: This folder contains correspondence between Vockery and a Chet Wilson, as well as correspondence between Vockery and a Cynthia Grant, a third correspondence between Vockery and Connie Moretti, and two photocopied packets about the Bell family.
Folder 24: Bellamy: There is a letter from a Mildred to someone by the name of Verna, ancestry notes, a scanned photo of John Jackson Bellamy, photocopies of a marriage license, and a letter to "Mary" from Mary L. Halton.
Folder 25: Bellis: Correspondence between Vockery and Nellie Margaret Lutz, family group sheets, and a photocopy of a commissioners report of the selling of the estate of Philip Bellis, and two photocopies of a contract.
Folder 26: Benge: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Diana Bouille as well as another correspondence between Vockery and Arthur D. Benge, family group sheets, ancestry notes, and photocopies of a newspaper article labeled 'The Family Tree," a notice of the arrest of Sydney Benge for murder in 1864, and military information for Sydney Benge, also from 1864.
