Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Terri Sanday regarding John C. Gowin (b. 25 June 1831); Inez Going regarding Aaron Goin (b. 1790); Carolyn Flint concerning Ash Goins (d. 7 January 1947), as well as various family group records, copies of newspaper clippings, a list of pertinent interments at the Lancaster cemetery (Garrard County, KY), and a pertinent copy of a page from the 1870 and 1880 Garrard County Census.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Jacquelyn Ross Golden, J. Douglas Froehlich, and Sharon McElvoy. Also contains family group records, handwritten pedigrees, a handwritten list of members of the Golden family buried in Golden Cemetery, copies of the census from Madison County in 1850 and 1860 containing a highlighted line of James S. Golden as well as copies of the census from Madison County in 1860 and 1870 with a highlighted line of Napoleon B. Golden.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Clara Leiblie, Jan Eardley, R.L. Owens, and Kenneth L. Goldsberry. Also contains family group records, a rejected application for admission into the DAR with an attached file of the documents sent to the DAR, copies of deeds of conveyance dating from 1839-1841 which involve Mack Goldsberry, a short transcription of the "Carter Family Bible" which details "M.C. Goolsbury" who is noted as Mack Goldsborough being born 1 October 1763 and his family members, a copy of a Widow's claim for pension filed by Cynthia Goolsberry in Garrard County in August 1863 with an attached copy of a document from the Surgeon General's Office detailing that Charles Golsbeery died 15 June 1862 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, of Apoplexia, and a marriage certificate involving a couple Goldsberry's dating to 26 September 1826.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and W.C.H. Seal regarding Thomas Goodridge (b. 1803) with an attached family pedigree that is extensive and notes Thomas as the progenitor.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Georgia E. Dent, The DAR, and Ernest Q. Petrey Jr. Also contains a family pedigree concluding with Daniel Graham (b. 6 March 1878), another concluding with Park Buford Graham (b. 21 February 1851), as well as a biographical piece written about Charles Spilman Graham (b. 1813) along with a deed of conveyance dated 21 July 1848 involving C.S. Graham, a copy of a death certificate regarding Emma T. Graham dated 30 July 1909, a list of compiled notes regarding the Graham family.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Marie M. Grant, Bonnie L. Nunn, Ronald J. Ebbing, James L. Peel, . Also contains a document entitled "A Short Summary of the Naval Career of Lucien McKee Grant, Rear Admiral, United States Navy" who was born in 1897 and served in World War I and II, a document entitled "Grant Family in America" which begins with James Grant of Scotland arriving in Florida in 1770, several family group records, a copy of the licensure of James W. Grant to practice dentistry in 1894 which appears to be either a renewal or updated licensure of a previous certification, a copy of the last will and testament of H. G. Gerndon dated 20 August 1894,

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Chielyn Lyon Ingham regarding Williamson Graves who married Sarah Jane Evans around 1819. Also contains family pedigrees concluding with Jane Young Graves (b. 4 January 1806) and a descendant chart with Rice Graves (b. 1729) as the progenitor, and several handwritten notes on very aged paper.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Elaine Groomer Petitjeau, Michael Groomer, R.G. Westray, Leland L. Caster. Also contains several lengthy family group records and pedigrees, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Garrett Gromer, Samuel Gromer, William Gromer, Isaac Gromer, David Gromer, and others dated 15 August 1825, along with a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Jacob, Henry, and Alexander Groomer dated 2 August 1830, and a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Frederick Groomer dated 1827.

Contains documents relating to the Mary Ann Heathman (m. 1799), Benjamin Hughley, Richard Anderson Hull (m. 1807), Jeremiah Huffman (m. 1820), the Humes family, Thomas D. Hurst (m. 1830), William James Hutchins (d. 1958), James Hutton (m. 1791), and several family group records.

Contains copies of the Hackley Family Bible which details the births and marriages of several Hackleys beginning with George Elliot Hackley (m. 9 march 1836), along with a transcribed page entitled "Hackley Bible Continued" which extends back to Kemper Thornton (b. 1 July 1790).

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Lucy R. Dillion and a copy of a petition for divorce filed by Sally Hackney in 1791 against her husband Samuel in Garrard County.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Rose Huzzey and "Mrs. Leonard (Neva) Simmons". Also contains several family group records, a copy of the will of Anthony Haden dated 19 December 1827 along with other records regarding Anthony, including Revolutionary War Pension Records and a copy of his marriage certificate dated 12 January 1783.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Craig A. Hager. Also contains a handwritten transcription of the notes of a murder case in Garrard County which appeared in a local newspaper on 14 June 1945 regarding the killing of John Hager on 9 June, as well as family group records and copies of vital statistics.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Arlis Anderson Renfro, Faye Hufford, Jerry E. Orr. Also contains several family group records, copies of copies of court records dating from 1852, a copy of the last will and testament of John Haggard dated 26 March 1814, a copy of a document entitled "Haggard History" which begins with Henry Haggard in 1744, and a copy of the newspaper article memorializing Revolutionary Soldier William Haggard Sr. (b. 1753, d. 1852).
