Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Duane Seaquist, Anna H. Arnold, Corey Dunaiski, Robert S. Nevins. Also contains family pedigrees beginning with Robert J. Hanna Sr. (b. 1906), family group records, a copy of an article detailing the death of Ed Holtzclaw (undated).

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Orville E. Bowers, Glen Butler, Gladys Shaw, Beverly Humphrey, and several correspondence between Vockery and John and Ann-Marie Hopper including many copies of estate sale posters, genealogical documents, and court record transcriptions involving the Hoppers of the mid 19th century. Also contains copies of a document entitled "Moses Hopper and Family" which begins with Moses Hopper who lived in the early to mid 18th century and continues throughout his descendants, and a document detailing conclusions gather from the study of John Collier-Mildred's last will and testament which is dated 20 February 1820.

Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and James Houston regarding the "Huston's" of the 1800 tax list in Garrard County.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Buford Howard, Judy Howard, Edith Bach, and Norma Reusser. Also contains a copy of the bill of marriage involving Thomas Perkins and Mahala Howard dated 7 February 1853, a newspaper article from the Richmond Register entitled "Old Family Letter Brings the Past Back to Life" dated 9 February 1997 which focuses on a letter discovered involving Clyde B. Howard in the mid 19th centuries, and a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Obed Howard dated 21 October 1839.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Darrell Raimer, Noma J. (Hughes) Romine, Jean Heggemeier, Chris Smathers, Frank Saufley Hughes III, W. R. "Bill" Short, Jody Hughes. Also contains a copy of a land survey (possibly a deed of conveyance) involving Absalom Hughes dated 16 August 1825, a copy of a document entitled "Our Hughes Ancestors" by Darrell Raimen regarding Absalom Hughes specifically, copies of family pedigrees beginning with Noma J. (Hughes) Romine (b. 1926), a copy of a biographical sketch regarding Merrill Hughes from a book entitled "History of Saline County Missouri" along with a copy of the obituary of M.D. Hughes, and a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Tharpe and Abner Hughes dated 24 October 1887

Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Benjamin Humphrey dated 7 November 1927, copies of photos of Bessie Hill Humphrey, Frances Short Hill Saunders, James Humphrey, Cecil Humphrey,  and Geneva Humphrey, along with photos of the graves of Peter Humphrey and Susan Hall Humphrey, a copy of the death certificate of Peter Humphrey (d. 14 October 1921), a copy of the memorial log from Bessie Hill Humphrey's memorial, a copy of the memorial log from Cecil Humphrey's memorial.
