Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and "Mrs. Perry" regarding Henry Karr of Madison County in the early to mid 1800's. Also contains a copy of a distribution from the estate of William Karr and a copy of the last will and testament of Gilbert Karr dated 18 January 1825.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and Marshall E. Kays Jr., Robert J. Reich (with a description of the death of Jesse Kays in 1879). Also contains a copy of the last will and testament of George Kays dated 1 July 1817, a copy of a document entitled "Kays Genealogy" by Charles W. Kays, a copy of a land survey with a highlighted portion indicating the estate of George Keys, and a transcription of the last will and testament of George Kays dated 31 July 1817.

Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Thomas W. Kelly regarding the Kelly family in Kentucky from the late 1700's through the mid 1800's, Betty Neu regarding Mary Kelly (b. 1852, d. 1889), and Nicki Beatty Lagoudakis regarding John Kelley (m. 1810).

Anderson Jr. Also contains extensive family group records, a copy of a single page from the book "Garrard County Will Abstracts," a deed of conveyance involving John Kemper dated 26 August 1829, a copy of the last will and testament of John Kemper dated 2 November 1826, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Thornton Kemper dated 8 May 1843, a copy of the last will and testament of Burdett Kemper in which he noteworthily hands down slaves of his to his children despite the date of the will being 7 April 1873, a copy of a book entitled "My Old Kentucky Home" by Octavia Kemper Anderson" published in 1974.
