Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Walker, some gemological records of the Lemaster family that is related to the Lear family, a copy of a marriage license between Alex Lamaster and Nancy Lear, a copy of the last will and testament of William Lear, a copy of a deed of conveyance from Dalton Adams to Williams R. Also contains the last will and testament of John Leavell, a copy of a document that listed John Leavell's estate, a written record of John Leavell's family history (and his wife Elizabeth), a written record of Edward Leavell's family history, aa declaration of marriage for London Leavell and Atlanta Leavell, a marriage license and certificate for Isaac Leavell and Mary Kelly, and a newspaper clipping from 1825 about John Leavell's complaint over Edward Leavell's land.

Contains correspondence between Vockery and a person who refers themselves as "Joyce". Also contains Ben Letcher's letter of resignation as county clerk, several handwritten documents detailing various children of the Letcher family, a family history detailing the first Letchers to settle and live in Virginia (with the genealogy dating back to around 1740), various members of the Letcher family who lived in Garrard County, and around 60 pages copied from a book called Our Pioneer Ancestors.
