Scope and Contents of the Materials

Contracts and correspondence between Laura Clay and her farm managers, Green Parks and William Riley. Also includes building specifications for Schoolhouse 43 and a school census for the same, both undated. School census is likely from 1899-1899 and according to the donor the school is White Oak School.

Biographical Note

Laura Clay; born near Richmond, Ky. February 9, 1849; attended Sayre School in Lexington, graduating in 1865. Attended Miss Hoffman’s finishing school in New York City, then Universities of Michigan and Kentucky; led organization of Kentucky Equal Rights Association; well-known southern suffragist; served in National American Woman Suffrage Association and Southern States Woman Suffrage Association; died June 29, 1941.
