Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection documents the activities of the Eastern Kentucky University Student Association from the years of 1964-1975. This includes correspondence between the Student Association and the Attorney General, President Robert. R Martin, and Vice President of Student Affairs Thomas D. Myers, as well as some general correspondence. Many folders highlight specific university committees and minutes of committee meetings, including the Committee on Academic Affairs, the Committee on Student Rights and Responsibilities, the Committee on Drug Abuse, and many others. There is also a significant amount of information on dormitories and questions of equality regarding Women’s Hours in dormitories. Election information on both EKU elections and voter registration for local, state, and national elections can be found in this collection as well. The Student Senate is also significant to this collection, as a large portion of it includes minutes and motions of student senate meetings. In addition to this, proceedings of the Student Court can be found within the collection.

Folder 2: Student Attorney Proposal, 1974: Contains a proposal for the position of Students' Attorney, which would provide legal services for students.
Folder 3: Student Bill of Rights: Contains an addition to Section I, Subsection D of the Student Bill of Rights.
Folder 4: Student Code and Student Rights, 1971: Contains a program from the Conference on Student Rights, a clipping from an article detailing the importance of student involvement on committees, a copy of the Student Code, and blank forms relevent to student rights.

Folder 12: Student Discounts, 1968-1970: Contains student discount cards given to members of the EKU student council, a brochure for Georgia Tech student discount services, a card from the Atlanta Intercollegiate Discount Service, and correspondence regarding discounts.
Folder 13: Student Organizations, 1972-1973: Contains changes made to the University Handbook for Students, a statement on the use of campus facilities by student organizations, a statement on mangement and control of student organization funds, a list of authorized campus student organizations, and a publication on the National Student Association.
Folder 14: Student Power, 1967-1970: Contains an article titled, "Student Power: A national issue takes its inevitable turn at Notre Dame," an article titled, "Student Participation in Campus Governance," a political statement from the Commission on Academic Affairs, a special report titled, "Who's in Charge?," an article titled, "Changing University Governance," and a University Decision Making Reform Packet from the University of Kentucky.
Folder 15: Student Publications Board, 1972-1973: Contains agendas for meetings of the Student Publications Board, meeting minutes, an application for an editorial position, and official advertising policies of the university.
Folder 16: Student Regent Reports, 1973-974: Contains proposed legislation from Regents' meetings, motions resulting from Regents' meetings, and Student Regent's reports to the senate.
Folder 17: Student Senate Standing Committees, 1973-1974: Contains a list of student senate committees and which members of the senate are on these committees.
