Historical Note:

BAGBY, Dr. Robert E. 82, scholar, educator, community servant and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away August 17, 2011, with family members at his side. In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Kathryn (Kathy) Kuertz Bagby, he is survived by one son, Douglas Alan Bagby (Theresa), one daughter, Kerrie Bagby Moberly (Harry), all of Richmond; his grandchildren; Laura Lilly (Michael), Matthew George, Harry Robert Moberly, Bobbi Hukill Williams (Marty), and Katherine Hukill Thompson (Chris); and his six great-grandchildren.

He received his undergraduate degree at Wilmington College, Wilmington, OH and went on to earn his Master's and Ph.D. at Miami University in Oxford, OH. Dr. Bagby had a passion for the field of education. He began his career as a high school social studies teacher in Georgetown, OH. He later served as Vice-principal at Talawanda High School and Principal at Stewart Junior High School, both in Oxford, OH. While pursuing his doctorate at Miami University, he was the Assistant to the Director of the McGuffey Laboratory School and Assistant to the Director of Academic Centers. After completing his doctorate he served as Principal at Ripley-Union- Lewis High School, Ripley, OH. In 1972 Dr. Bagby decided to dedicate his career to collegiate academics and joined EKU's faculty in the College of Justice & Safety (formerly the College of Law Enforcement). In 1975 he was appointed Acting Chair of Police Administration and Chair in 1978. Later he would serve with EKU's Division of Special Programs and Undergraduate Studies. He retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus. He served on numerous police promotional boards in Oxford, Ohio; Lexington and Frankfort, Kentucky as well as serving as a public speaker in the local community. He worked as a consultant for the Board of Regents (State of New York); member of the Oxford, Ohio City Council, Cemetery Trustee and Planning Commission Associate.
