Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection includes yearbooks of the local chapters affiliated with Kentucky Federation of Music Clubs (KFMC) (Stephen Foster Music Club, Glasgow Musicale, Lexington Federated Music Club, MacDowell Club, Saturday Musicale, Cecilian Club, and Winchester Music Club.). Other publications include the KFMC newsletter and state and national convention programs. Some administrative records are also included. It should be noted that there are holes in the collection and there are several years where no local chapter yearbooks or newsletters exist.
Collection Historical Note
The Kentucky Federation of Music Clubs was founded in 1921 as a chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs. The organization was created to promote music and music education. Senior clubs belonging to KFMC and covered in this collection are:
Stephen Foster Music Club, Glasgow Musicale, Lexington Federated Music Club, MacDowell Club, Saturday Musicale, Cecilian Club, and Winchester Music Club.
These clubs have funded hundreds of scholarships for middle and high school students to attend the Stephen Foster Music Camp and have funded university scholarships for music majors.
