Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of all the extant records of the Madison Masonic Lodge through 1997. The minute books document membership and lodge activities for over 100 years of its existence.

Biographical Note

The Madison Lodge was the third lodge organized in Madison County, Kentucky with a dispensation granted in July 1848. The original officers were Allen R. Patterson, W.C. Montgomery, Benjamin Boatright, Humphrey T. Jones, Robert A. Broadhurst, Geo. W. Crooke and John P. Crooke. The charter was granted in August 1850.

The original charter and early minutes were destroyed by fire about 1893.
