This is a collection of purchased materials that relate to Madison County, Kentucky or the Civil War. It includes correspondence, military reports and legal documents. Mr. Williams has done extensive research on most items, and that research accompanies the item.

- Folder 1: Letter from Daniel Breck to Mr. Danforth, 28 Jul 1842
- Cryptic letter regarding a business affair to a lawyer in Danbury, GA.
- Folder 2: Letter from Frederick Holmes to Amanda Holmes, 7 Nov 1862
- Holmes is a soldier in the 77th Illinois Infantry and writes to his wife two months after the Battle of Richmond. He describes the battlefield, talks about mass graves, his housing situation and what his days are like. He finishes the letter talking about baby names.
- Folder 3: Letter from Bush and Bentley to John White, 3 Jul 1843
- Bush and Bentley are writing to John White regarding a debt and driving hogs in the fall. They mention the price of hogs as that will determine if they drive them east. John White was a Richmond, KY attorney who was elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1832 and later to the US House. He served as Speaker of the House from 1841-1843.
- Folder 4: Ordnance Receipt, 17 Dec 1862
- List of ordnance received at Richmond KY in 1862 by the 14th Kentucky Volunteers.
- Folder 5: Inventory and Appraisal of the Estate of George Tomblinson, 20 Feb 1841
- Also seen as Tomlinson. Inventory includes the names of eight enslaved people. Two are women with named children.
- Folder 6: Letter from George H. Williams to William A. Carr, 1846
- Williams is writing a friend back home in New Hampshire about his trip to Kentucky and about the school he has opened in Richmond, KY. He talks in general about the abilities of his students and about the personalities of Kentuckians. He briefly describes the geology of the knobs around Berea.
- Folder 7: Letter from J.M. Shackelford to William Ramey, 1848
- Shackelford is writing in his capacity as Clerk of the Madison County Circuit Court and is about the heirs of William Kindred. Ramey's mother was the daughter of Kindred and her brother was John Kindred. Heirs of James Ramey are William K. Ramey, James Ramey, Daniel Ramey, John Ramey, John Ellis and Malinda his wife, and David S. Ramey.
- Folder OS 1: 18th Kentucky Infantry Muster Rolls, 1862
- The 18th Kentucky (USA) fought at the Battle of Richmond and these rolls document men who were captured and parolled, as well as those injured or killed. Included are rosters for Companies A, C, D, E, G, H, and I, and muster roll for regimental officers. (8 sheets)
