Scope and Contents: Dr. Aughtum Howard kept many documents and letters from her time at both Kentucky Wesleyan College and Eastern Kentucky University. Along with some interesting pieces of her life outside of teaching, including her family’s World War II ration books, Sunday School lessons, and original poetry, the collection includes letters and documents showcasing her time as a faculty member and a member of the organizations she took part in. A large portion of this collection relates to the Mathematical Association of America, including information on meetings, traveling speakers, mathematical papers and speeches, and contributions to the American Mathematical Monthly. There is also a significant amount of information regarding the American Association of University Professors, specifically relating to Dr. Howard’s role in the Curriculum Study Committee. Newspaper clippings involving articles on Dr. Howard, the Kentucky Wesleyan Lyceum Committee, the AAUP Powell Committee Report, and other education related topics are included in this collection as well.
