Historical Note: William Walker Watts was born September 16, 1836 and died August 11, 1912. Watts supposedly served in the Civil War as a Confederate soldier, although no documentation has been found yet to support this claim. On February 28, 1878, William married Mary Parkes Watts and not long after the wedding, he began to build the Elmwood estate. Watts owned 75,000 acres in Texas and the Elmwood estate in Richmond, Kentucky. At the time of his death, he was rated as being a millionaire. According to his answers on legal documents, Watts only had one daughter, Emma Watts.
