Scope and Contents of the Materials
This manuscript cookbook dating from the 1840s is full of recipes. The recipes include entrees, soups, puddings, cakes and more as well as recipes for preserving food, health remedies and cleaning solutions. Many of the recipes reflect the dishes of various nationalities and some are attributed to individuals or to cooks at businesses such as the Royal Hotel in Derby, England and the Cambria Steamer. There are also several remedies for hair loss.
Collection Historical Note
Rose C. Muhlenberg could possibly be from Pennsylvania, but there is little other than a name to go on to research her further.

- Manuscript cookbook. Recipes contributed by Miss Eoff Virginia, Mrs. Budd, Miss Leslie, Mrs. M. Kein, Lydia Heister, M. Sheaff, Mrs. Dunn, Mrs. Tucker and Mary Rush. Other names are difficult to decipher. Lancaster is also noted frequently and may be a place rather than a person. Many recipes have notations that they came from Virginia, France, England, etc.
