Historical Note: Laura Clay; born near Richmond, Ky. February 9, 1849; attended Sayre School in Lexington, graduating in 1865. Attended Miss Hoffman’s finishing school in New York City, then Universities of Michigan and Kentucky; led organization of Kentucky Equal Rights Association; well-known southern suffragist; served in National American Woman Suffrage Association and Southern States Woman Suffrage Association; died June 29, 1941.
