Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
These records document the activities of the Altrusa Club of Richmond from its beginning in 1941 through the present. The scrapbooks especially show the scope of the organization's altruistic work which included the establishment of a City-County Library, with a branch at Richmond High School. They also donated books to the National Youth Association (NYA) camp at Lake Reba. The organization was also interested in Planned Parenthood, child-care for defense workers at the Blue Grass Army Depot and other issues relevant to women. The organization has been interested in issues affecting women since its beginning.
