Scope and Contents of the Materials

Scrapbook created by Mrs. Holman S. Todd (Mary Pieratt Todd) containing newspaper clippings from The Wolfe County News, with Mrs. Todd's notes dating them from 1893-1960. The scrapbook contains mostly obituaries about the Todd, Pieratt, and Combs families along with Wolfe county friends and family. Other clippings include pictures, poems, recipes, and stories that interested Mrs. Todd, such as news articles about Abraham Lincoln and Japan. Mrs. Todd includes a list from 1959 at the end of the scrapbook recording the Pieratt's lineage from father to son, starting with Valentino Pieratt in 1760. There is a loose photograph of the Combs family and a charcoal sketch of Henry Combs.

Biographical Note

Mrs. Mary Pieratt Todd, born on January 28th 1892 in Wolfe County, was the wife of Holman S. Todd, daughter of Henry F. Pieratt and Alice Combs Pieratt, and sister of Harold Pieratt, Tom S. Pieratt, and Henry Bruce Pieratt. She was the mother of Elwood Todd and grandmother of Holman P. Todd and Carl P. Todd. Mrs. Todd was a member of the Pond (White Oak) Christian Church, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Christian Women's Fellowship, and a charter member of the Pond Homemakers Club. She died on January 3rd, 1979 at the age of 86 in her home at Meadowlark Drive after fighting a long illness.
