Name: Gay, J. W.
Historical Note: The Gay family intertwines with the Prewitt, Chenault, and Woodford families. Lucy Caroline Prewitt married James D. Gay and together they had five children. Among those children were Nelson and William. They would go on to marry Lila Chenault and Margaret Woodford respectively. Nelson and Lila's son, James Dunlap Gay (b. 1901), was drafted into WWI. William and Margaret had four children; Callie, Nannie, Elizabeth, and J. Woodford Gay (b. 1902), after whom this collection is named. Woodford carried on the family occupation of farmer until his death in 1931.
