The Richmond Garden Club Records document the history of the organization as well as various projects they worked on with other community partners. The club members were very active in the preservation of White Hall State Historic Shrine and designed and maintained gardens there. They have also worked with various local organizations including Girl Scouts, Richmond City Government and the Richmond Area Arts Council to build Monarch Butterfly gardens, beautify Irvinton and downtown Richmond and decorate for the Arts Gala held for many years at Elmwood.
The bulk of the collection is comprised of scrapbooks which give the researcher a good overview of the activities of the organization for any given year. Unfortunately, this part of the collection has some gaps, and it is not known if the scrapbooks have been lost or if they didn't create one for that year.
The Richmond Garden Club was organized in November 1958 and was federated in April 1959. They are associated with the National Garden Club and the Garden Club of Kentucky.
The Richmond Garden Club played a vital role in the acquisition and restoration of White Hall State Shrine in the 1970s and designed and built a portion of the gardens there. They have worked on many projects over the years to beautify Richmond and Madison County.
