Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection merges two small collections of materials relating to the Mount Zion Church in Madison County, Kentucky. It contains several short histories of the church, a photocopy of a membership book and a ledger as well as church bulletins and programs and news clippings.
Collection Historical Note
The Mount Zion Christian Church was founded in 1852, and the brick building currently in use was built soon after. The church stood directly in the line of fire between the Union and Confederate armies during the Battle of Richmond in 1862 and the church served as a hospital. The congregation is still active today.
