Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of manuscript materials that were collected by the Dorris Museum. Some of the collection has been processed either as individual collections or has been added to other artificial collections as appropriate. The items inventoried here are just a small percentage of a collection that had a worldwide scope. Dr. Dorris collected any materials that he found to be interesting without regard to subject. Other materials will be added to this inventory as identified and processed.

- This scrapbook was created by Postmaster John Taylor of Richmond, KY and consists of news clippings pasted over a book titled Report of the Commissioner of Patents. Many of the articles are related to politics; however, he also included clippings on medical remedies; the Freedman's Bureau; various statistics around the state, country and world; the case of James H. Arnold who killed Robert E. Little; the Hill-Evans Feud in Garrard County, and the Sanders and Ballard fight on Second Street in Richmond to name just a few.

- Pocket Diary of a young man from Pulaski County, KY with brief notations on daily activities. Includes notes on the weather, farm work completed, days that he attends the family's store, events attended and more. Based on census records he is likely Milton Green McQuary. - Folder 24: Note to the Paymaster of the 7th Regiment, 1836
- Paymaster is to pay Thomas C. Howard for four days service. (Dorris Museum #N.68.1)
- Folder 25: Henry B. Hays Scrapbook, 1859-1880
- Most of the clippings in this volume are related to Henry Blake Hays, coal merchant in Pittsburg, PA. It includes many news clippings about the Civil War, obituaries for a number of men, and articles about labor problems in the coal mines in the late 1870s. There is also a manuscript poem by Bob Sprout titled "The Riot" which is about the coal mine strike and Daniel Risher. Three photographs taken by L.B.H. form a panorama of the Hays & Bro. Coal Mine with coal tipples on the Monongahela River and a railroad bridge in the background. Includes a bound photocopy. (Dorris Museum #585)

- Folder 2: Record of the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund of Madison County, KY, 1873-1874
- These records document repayment of the Stanford to Richmond, KY branch of the Louisville & Nashville Rail Road bond issue. Includes a bound photocopy. (Dorris Museum #1535)
- Folder 3: Madison County Library Company Records, 1841-1863
- Includes circulation records from 1841-1848 and library board minutes from 1856-1863. Includes a bound photocopy. (Dorris Museum #1422)
- Folder 4: Madison County Railroads Scrapbook, 1872-1879
- Scrapbook includes news clippings about the Elizabethtown & Paducah (E & P) Railroad; the L & N branch from Stanford to Richmond, KY; the Richmond, Irvine and Three Forks railroad; as well as railroads in Missouri. Some articles discuss the difference between narrow and broad guage rails, some discuss state debt and others show population statistics, but the bulk of the clippings relate to railroads.
