Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of photocopies of minute books from the Silver Creek Presbyterian Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, KY and the Kirksville Presbyterian Church. Also included are church histories, newsletters, publications and bulletins from the First Presbyterian Church of Richmond. Most of these materials were collected from various sources over a long period of years and are not complete records of any of these churches.
Collection Historical Note
The first Presbyterian church in Madison County, KY was organized in 1790 by Rev. James Crawford in the community of Kirksville and was called the Silver Creek Presbyterian Church. This church eventually came to be known as the Kirksville Presbyterian Church, and it continued until 1921 when church members voted to consolidate with the First Presbyterian Church in Richmond which had been founded In 1827. The complete history of these churches is much more convoluted than this brief overview shows, but interested researchers can refer to the collection for a more complete version.
