Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

- The ancestry notes in this folder contain family histories, records from deed books, and charts of descent, along with family group sheets. There are also many photocopies: family records (possibly from a family bible), the deed of Baylor Jennings, a Mercer County Census record from 1820, a Mercer County tax list, a newspaper with an article about Emma Graham, a marriage bond from Mercer County, a marriage contract for William Brown and Sarah Blackwell, the deed of Henry Brown, the deed of Benjamin Letcher, excerpts from a book on Amherst County, Virginia in the Revolution, William Brown's Treasury Warrant, deed entries for Putnam County, Indiana, more marriage bonds from Mercer County, a deed for a plot of land in Amherst, VA, an application to join the Daughters of the American Revolution, a newspaper article about historical homes of Greencastle and Putnam County, Indiana, a map of Putnam County, Indiana, a list of American Revolution veterans who were buried in Putnam County, a map of Monroe, and the last will and testament of William Brown. This folder also contains multiple correspondence between Vockery and: Michele Amrhein, Sallie Cannon, Ella Sheffield, and others. Included with all of the above are two photographs of two tombstones and a color-coded patent.

- Contains family group sheets; newspaper articles; ancestry.com notes; Garrard County Census Records; and ancestry notes.
- Folder 3: Bruce
- Correspondence between Vockery and Constance Collins, Joyce R. Brown, Michael Fitzgerald, Langdon A. Withers, and Barbara Marron. There are also photocopies of the Bruce family history, lineage of Sophia Elizabeth Kavanaugh-Bear, a Revolutionary War card for the 7th Virginia Regiment that belonged to John Bruce as well as Revolutionary War pay cards, the deed of William Bruce, a bill from Fort Worth Undertaking Co. Funeral Directors, funeral registry for Henry Withers, an application for the Daughters of the American Revolution, a photograph of Henry Withers, a letter from Henry Withers to his mother, records from a family bible, two certificates of death, and another deed. Also included are family group sheets, ancestry notes, and a photograph of an unidentified man.

- Contains a DAR Application on behalf of Allie Arnold, correspondence between Vockery and Jane Hobbs, Barbara Whitters, Albert Roberts, Faye Roberts, J. Samuel Smart, Beverly Van Orden, Betty Gatewood, Shirley Dalton, and Marjorie Howard. A Bryant family history compiled by Annabel Wishart Lane, a copy of Bryants: Yours and Mine by Hildreth Hurt Johnson, and a Deed of Conveyance from James Bryant to Aun Walden dated 4 December 1797.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Russell Maas, along with a transcription of Hanna Bullock's Will dated July 1841

- Contains an order for copies of the Veteran Records of John Burchett and subsequent copies of those records from the National Archives, Transcriptions of Revolutionary Pension Application of Robert Burchett, William Burchett, and [underlined] John Burchitt (Burchett).

- Correspondence between Vockery and Fawnita K. Kennedy, Fawn K. Dessy, Pedigree Charts of the Kennedy and Stever families, Family Group files of various Burgins.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Barbara J. Carter
- Folder 9: Burnett
- Correspondence between Vockery and Tammy Burnett Lillich. Lineage papers beginning with William Burnett of 1798 Virginia.
- Folder 10: Butler
- Copies of Last Will and Testaments dating to 1811, correspondence between Vockery and Mary Ellen Tracy, Madison County Court Minutes dating from 1832.
- Folder 11: Buford
- Contains family group sheets beginning with John Beauford (Buford) born 1707, Copies of Garrard County Court minutes detailing a Deed of Conveyance to William Buford in 1821, correspondence between Dockery and Linda Carol Strahan, Karen Owens, Pat Hiatt, and Sharon Buford Rogers. Also contains a copy of a letter written by William Buford dated 10 July 1797. With Family Group Sheets.
- Folder 12: Burdette
- Contains a letter from February 18, 1889 from B.M. Burdette to General W.J. Landram, Correspondence between Joan Tussey and Deana Burdette Kearns, as well as Corr. between Judge Forrest Calico and Rosina H. Moseley, and Corr. between Vockery and Beverly J. Van Orden.
