Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Burton Jr., as well as a comprehensive list of KY marriages under the surname Burton beginning in 1793 with some genealogical notes following, a copy of a map of the R. A. - Contains a deed of conveyance worth 95 acres from the deceased Charles Campbell to his widow Phoebe Campbell dated 28 February 1820, as well as the will of William Campbell dated 18 November 1744, several different pedigrees and family group files, and a detailed copy of a document entitled "Descendants of George Campbell". Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Louanne Walker, Kenneth L. Moody, Timothy E. Campbell, Sylvia A. Campbell, James H. Campbell, Tim Campbell, Tammy Burnett Lillich, and Donna F. Morgan.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Hazel Carnes Haas and Margaret Arnold Simpson (conjunctly) regarding Alexander Carns. Also correspondence between Vockery and Jonathan Smith, Susan Nimmocks, Wilma and Mickey Griffin. Contains a deed of conveyance from John Carnes dated 9 November 1807, and several family group records.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Charles G. and Felicia Nichols, Vere Stuart Thompson (with respective pedigree), Tim Carpenter. A lengthy copy of a document entitled "Carpenter-Conn-Tudor: Generations of Related Names", copies of a court case deposition between Christian Carpenter and Samuel Ross dated 22 November 1848 over the value of arable farmland, a copy of a cemetery register for "Zopher Carpenter Cemetery" from 1965, a copy of the will (with notes) of Rufus Carpenter dated 29 January 1846, a copy of a document entitled "Identifying Our Early Virginia Ancestors" by Richard C. Carpenter, copy of a hand-drawn map of property divisions near "Maxwell's Station", a copy of a document entitled "Carpenter - From England to America" beginning in 1300, and extensive family group files.

- Correspondence between Vockery and James T. Carrier, Tony L. Morris. Also contains a copy of a document entitled "Did Carrier Mills, Illinois, have its beginning in Garrard County, Kentucky?" by James Taskel Carrier. This document includes a copied photo of William Housely Carrier (detailed as the namesake of Carrier Mills) and a photo of his house, as well as a copied photo of James H. Carrier and Ida M. Cornwell. Also contains a deed of conveyance dated 19 March 1840, and a lengthy description of genealogy beginning with W. John Carrier in 1699, various family group files, a summons from the Sheriff of Garrard County served on several members of the Carrier family on 16 February 1836, a copy of the birth certificate of James Charles Carrier b. 1891.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Roberta Cullen and Beulah L. Nelson. Also contains a copy of a newspaper article dated 23 February 1984 entitled "Climbing Your Family Tree can be Fun: The CHAMP Family", a copy of a deed of partition naming William Champ as owner dated 23 December 1867, a copy of a document entitled "Champ Family Bible" which includes a lineage from William Champ (b. 27 July 1776) to the death of John B. Champ (d. 9 September 1877), a copy of a deed of conveyance from R.P. Gregory to W.F. Champ dated November 1918.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Carol Sellers, Alfred J. Spiry, Margaret Cotton Spiry. Also contains a copy of a marriage certificate between Austin Chasteen and Julia Ann Crutchen dated 9 February 1856, many family group files, an extensive family pedigree, a copy of a document entitled "Summary of James Chasteen Revolutionary War Pension Request" detailing his family's legal proceedings between 7 September 1818 and 15 May 1927.
