Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Chestnut in August 1916, a copy of the last will of Sallie Chestnut.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Kathy A. Lacey, Louis Rodems, Edna M. Childers (with family pedigree), Melba Love Robinson. Copies of family pedigrees compiled by H.K. McCaleb beginning with Henry Childers (m. 1765), a copy of the obituary of Goldsberry (Goolsby) Childers dated 14 June 1842, family group records, copies of handwritten letters regarding Henry Childers, copies of the handwritten final estate affairs of Thomas Goldsberry Childers dated 1799.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Judie Brigham, James Ronald Duncan McDonald, Virginia Loomis, James E. Chrisman. Also contains family group records.
- Folder 4: Christopher
- Correspondence between Vockery and Claude Buchanan with family group files and a few of Vockery's handwritten notes on the family.
- Folder 5: Clark
- Correspondence between Vockery and Elizabeth (Betsy) Stuerke, Larry Hamilton, Evan C. Woolard, Marilyn Merritt, Louise Ward, Lorne R. Clark, Christine McNeel, Hazeldean (Clark) Ballard. Family group records beginning with Christopher Clark (b. 1754), some of Vockery's handwritten notes on the family, a copy of a deed of conveyance between Roy Gene Todd and Howard C. Evans in Berea, KY, dated 6 June 1988, a copy of a deed of conveyance between John Clark and William Clarke dated 3 February 1801, a copy of a document entitled "Murder of Fanny Clark", a copy of a pension application from John Clarke (Clark) dated June 1818, a snip of a newspaper article from 7 November 1991 about a Clark family reunion with photos of the declaredly four generations of Clarks.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Patricia E. Archer regarding Abraham Clay (Cousin of Henry Clay), James G. Schreiber regarding an "antique cherry sideboard" which might have come from the Cassius Marcellus Clay Estate, and correspondence between Vockery and Casandra Brown regarding Wills and Deeds of Clay family members. Also contains a copy of an article entitled "Cassius Clay's Bodyguard Recalls Shooting of Huge Reptile in Madison County Hills", as well as a handwritten letter from Bertha B. Tudor to Forrest Calico detailing "the story of how Green Clay obtained vast land holdings in the Blue Grass region of KY."

- Contains preliminary correspondence between H. Edward Montgomery and Harold L. McPheeters including a lengthy portion subject-headed "The Jesse Clements Family" as well as a transcribed portion entitled "Hoskins, Samuel vs. Clemns Heirs, June 1828." Also contains family group records, a lengthy lineage beginning with George W. Clements (b. 1822). Correspondence between Vockery and Peggy Powell.
- Folder 9: Clemmons
- Correspondence between Vockery and Janice Faulconer (including photos of a letter from Frances Winkler - mother of Katherine Winkler - to the Clerk of the Madison County Court giving permission for Katherine to marry John Clemmons, dated 17 January 1838),
- Folder 10: Cleveland
- Extensive correspondence between Vockery and Carol Whitehead, along with others between Vockery and Kathy Minton Binder. Notably detailed family group records beginning with Zatue Cleveland (b. 7 April 1780), as well as a comprehensive pedigree accompanied by notes from a family Bible.
- Folder 11: Clinton
- Correspondence between Vockery and Wallace J. Endicott, Annabel Villain, . Also contains a copy of the will of Archibald Clinton conveying land to James Clinton and siblings dated 6 March 1826.
- Folder 12: Clinkenbeard
- Correspondence between Vockery and Milton Miller regarding the descendants of one Lucas Clinkenbeard and Harriet Forman, and another correspondence between Vockery and Ray Brucks regarding the descendants of William Clinkenbeard (b.1725).
- Folder 13: Cloyd
- Correspondence between Vockery and "Jon" regarding John Cloyd (with family group record), Michael T. Cloyd regarding Hamilton Cloyd, and making reference to a book entitled "Genealogy of the Cloyd, Bayse and Tapp Families in America" by A.D. Cloyd published in 1912.
- Folder 14: Cobb
- Includes Vockery's handwritten notes and a copy of the will and testament of Samuel Cobb dated 9 June 1835.
- Folder 15: Coburn
- Includes preliminary correspondence between Judge Forrest Calico and Lyon J. Hoard dating from May to June 1963. Also contains copies of a deed of conveyance for Ann Tablock regarding land in Mercer County dated 15 February 1812.
- Folder 16: Cochran-Snoddy
- Correspondence between Vockery and Cindi Bonney Meyer regarding John Snoddy (d. 12 December 1814), and with Margaret Cochran Cline regarding the Cochran Cemetery. Also contains family group records of different lines dating to the late 1700's, copies of a deed of conveyance to the Cochrans in Madison County, KY, dated 7 December 1857, the last will and testament of John Cochran dated 8 December 1870, a copy of a poster advertising the public sale of the late Robert Cochran's estate (including slaves) dated 21 August 1857, copies of a death record "of Robert and Martha Baugh's children" extending back to Samuel Cochran (d. 22 April 1775), copies of a document entitled "William Cochran, Revolutionary Soldier" with a short lineage proceeding from him, an extensive family lineage beginning with John Cochran (b. 1746 - d. 5 July 1823) along with a corresponding pedigree, a copy of a document entitled "Cochran Family of Garrard County", family group records, and an antiquated document entitled "Entries taken from the John and Robert Cochran Bible, Printed 1792 in New York." which names George Washington as a subscriber.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Louise N. Klutz along with family group records, as well as a letter written from Patrick M. Hunt to "Mrs. Ballard" with a portion of a document entitled "19th KY Infantry" which names Francis M. Coffey, Moses Coffey, and George A.C. Coffey as members.
- Folder 18: Collett
- Correspondence between Vockery and Sharon Stanard Heaney, Gary Doan and someone only named as the child of "Dewey 'Wayne' Carter". Also includes a family pedigree, copies of county court minutes from Madison County, KY, dated 15 July 1819, a photograph of "George Matt Collett's Grandparents Jackson and Emily Collett" taken shortly after the Civil War, a copy of the obituary of Mary Collett, copies of land deeds dated 2 October 1888, a photograph of Mary Collett "1875-1929, Daughter of J&E Collett, Mother of George Matt (Napier) Collett, Sister to D.D. Collett", Family group records, copies of a deed of conveyance dated 12 September 1907, another copy of deed of conveyance to Dovie Collett dated 25 August 1919, another copy of a deed of conveyance dated 23 August 1866.
- Folder 19: Collins
- Correspondence between Vockery and Virginia Amorde regarding Capt. Barbee Collins (b. 1795- d. 1840) with family pedigree, as well as correspondence between Vockery and Debbi Lehr regarding the last Will and Testament of Stephen Collins dated 1825, and a corr. between Vockery and Ted Schmitz regarding Richard Collins (d. 1810).
- Folder 20: Colvin
- Contains a copy of correspondence between "Mrs. Schulten" and Mary Lois Harding Felts regarding the descendants of James Colvin, a Revolutionary War soldier who fought at Fort Pitt.
- Folder 21: Combs
- Correspondence between Vockery and Mary Bryant Park regarding a book entitled "Combs in Kentucky" and a search for John Combs (b. 1809). Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Hazel M. White regarding Ruth Combs (b.1901). Also contains a copy of Ruth Combs' obituary, and notes of a book on Combs Genealogy written by Dr. Josiah Combs.
- Folder 22: Comely
- Correspondence between Vockery and "Mr. Comely", Betty Debusk, Roseanne Montgomery, Ky W. White, Jennifer Kimbiley, Lisa Bowman. Also contains extensive family group records, a family pedigree, and Vockery's handwritten notes on the family.
- Folder 23: Connelly
- Correspondence between Vockery and Mary L. Coyne regarding Dudley J. Conley. Also contains notes about the murder of Dudley Conley by William Bailey on 18 September 1887 in Lancaster, KY.
- Folder 24: Conner
- Correspondence between Vockery and Rob Jenson regarding Jonathan George including a copy of his marriage certificate to Mary A. Harmon dated 4 September 1862. Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Joyce J. Dutkiewicz regarding Clayton Conner, and Louise H. Kimmel regarding a John Conner who married Susannah Teeter in 1815.
- Folder 25: Cook
- Contains a family pedigree compiled by Beverly G. Martin, correspondence between Vockery and Duane Seaguist, Beverly Martin, Reda Manes, Gayle Wolff Ford, William "Will" A. Cook, Janice Meredith, and Dean Pruitt. Also contains family group records, a copy of a deed of conveyance from Grove Cookes to F. J. Conn dated 4 October 1859, a copy of a deed of partition including John Cooke, Grove Cooke, and others dated 1 March 1858, copies of two pages out of the "Grove Cooke Family Bible in Possession of James McQuerry" detailing several generations of Cookes in his line,
- Folder 26: Cooley
- Correspondence between Vockery and Harold L. Hendley, Virginia N. Lightbourn, and Edward F. Cooley. Contains a copy of a deed of conveyance from Eliza Cooley to [?] Williams dated 1 August 1879, a letter of consent from Eliza Cooley in order for her daughter, Marie Angaline, to marry, dated 13 January 1866. Also contains copies of a document of marriage records from Mercer County, family group records, a deed of conveyance from Ralph Cooley to William Cooley dated 25 November 1846.
- Folder 27: Cooper
- Correspondence between Vockery and Don Rivara regarding Benjamin Cooper, Sarshall Cooper, and Braxton Cooper. Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Dorothy Kruger regarding Benjamin Allen Cooper (b. 25 January 1756) including a page of his direct family, correspondence between Vockery and Bruce Baughman also inquiring about Benjamin A. Cooper and his wife Anne Fullerton.
- Folder 28: Coovert
- Correspondence between Vockery and Anna O. Jackson regarding David A. Covert's will dating after 1814, and includes subsequent family group records indicating lineage.
- Folder 29: Cornelison
- Contains family group records, correspondence between Vockery and Peggy (Cornelison) Powell, Calvin R. Teel, and Glenda J. Chombeau. Also includes a copy of a letter of consent for Susan (Susanna) Clemmons to marry Elias (Eli) Cornelison dated 26 October 1816, and extensive family pedigrees.
- Folder 30: Cosby
- Correspondence between Vockery and Jean Clore, Richard L. Cosby, . Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance from David Timothy Logan to Austin Cosby dated 21 September 1853, family group records, a copy of a deed of purchase from KY by Austin Cosby and his promised-wife (the deed is made on condition of their obligatory future marriage) on 1 September 1819, copies out of a book entitled "Madison County Kentucky History and Genealogies, Vol. 1" referring to Austin Cosby, a copy of the will of Charles Cosby dated "this 28th day, 1838", a copy of a deed of conveyance between Ann Cosby (wife of the late M.L. Cosby) and the Biggerstaff family dated 14 December 1885, a copy of the last will and testament of M.L. Cosby dated 20 April 1873.
