Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Kathryn Shrode Geddie, Francis A. Dean, John A. Carlson, Orville Dean. Also contains family group records, a copy of a deed to the heirs of William Dean dated 10 June 1880, a copy of the last will and testament of Andrew Barthe, a copy of the last will and testament of Richard Dunn.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Janis Schultz, . Also contains family record groups, a copy of the last will and testament of Andrew Tribble dated 9 February 1817, a copy of a purchase of estate by James Dejarnette dated 2 May 1825, a copy of the last will and testament of Daniel Dejarnette dated 23 August 1808, a copy of a deed of conveyance to A. J. Tribble dated 3 February 1845, a copy of the last will and testament of James Dejarnette dated 23 March 1859, copies of an old text detailing the American history of the Dejarnett family beginning with Daniel Dejarnett.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Jan DeLaney regarding John and Amanda Delaney who died in the mid 1800's.
- Folder 6: Dennis
- Correspondence between Vockery and Jan Stevenson, Andrew Kirby, Tiffany Sewell, and Patricia G. Daley Jones. Contains family group records, a copy of the last will and testament of Elisha Dennis dated 8 February 1819, a copy of the last will and testament of Beverly Dennis, a transcribed copy of a marriage certificate between Hudson Dennis and Melly Rice, copies of marriage records from Ohio County, KY.
- Folder 7: Denny
- Correspondence between Vockery and Barbara Denny George (with attached family group records), Charles von Dietrich Knighton, Grace C. Clowe. Also contains a copy of an article entitled "Garrard County Papers Pioneer Family No. 4: The Denny Family" along with the clipping of the original newspaper.
- Folder 8: Denton
- Contains an original State of Tennessee document (stamped with government seal on front-top-left corner) from 1869 regarding the Denton family of Jefferson County as well as several copies of that document, a copy of a document detailing the history of the Denton family written by Russell Denton on 12 May 1922, copies of marriage license books pertaining to the Dentons, copies of a land appraisal dated 1846. Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Josephine Parker and subsequent family group records.

- Contains previous correspondence between Lucille Dever and Forrest Calico with extensive notes regarding the family. Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Marion Harris (with attached copies of a receipt of sale involving Denis Dever, as well as a copy of the last will and testament of William Dever dated 10 September 1802).

- Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Philip W. Allen regarding Benjamin Fisher Dicken (d. 1804) and Zachariah Smith (d. 1816-1818).
- Folder 11: Dickerson
- Correspondence between Vockery and Frances Moore Brummett (with attached family group records and a heavily noted family pedigree), Janie Lackey (with another extensive family pedigree and family group files).
- Folder 12: Dillingham
- Correspondence between Vockery and Ann Todd and John A. Dillingham (conjunctly) with an attached copy of a deed of conveyance involving Arthur Dillingham dated 20 June 1821 as well as a copy of the comprehensive family tree of John Allen Dillingham (b. 1939).
- Folder 13: Dillion
- Contains a copy of a document entitled "Second Dillion Reunion: July 26, 1986, London, KY" which lays out a lengthy family pedigree. Also contains a single page with an image of and information regarding Boston Dillion (b. 8 December 1817).
- Folder 14: Dismukes
- Correspondence between Vockery and Pat Riley Groves (with an attached copy of the last will and testament of James Dismukes dated 8 February 1810). Also contains an excerpt from the September 1969 issue of "National Genealogical Society Quarterly" with highlighted portions referring to the Dismukes family.
- Folder 15: Dockery
- Contains previous correspondence between Evelyn Sheets and Josephine Pence as well as a copy of an issue of "The Kansas City Times" dated 20 July 1977 with a noted portion about Fina Gondringer.
- Folder 16: Dodd and Dodds
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Evelyn Dodds. Also contains copies of a document entitled "Hung as a Spy: A Reminiscence of the Late War in which a Madison County Boy Figured" detailing the experience of Travis Dodd of Richmond during the Civil War when he was captured in Knoxville.
- Folder 17: Dollard
- Correspondence between Vockery and Carolyn Riley with several copies of documents including a deed of conveyance dated 4 February 1814, another deed of conveyance including John Dollard dated 30 March 1798, and other copies of "Sales of Court" dated 1814-1815
- Folder 18: Dollins
- Correspondence between Vockery and Timothy D. Dollens, as well as a copy of the marriage certificate between Clay Green Dollins and Doris Jean Combs dated 8 August 1959 and including much of their family lineage.
- Folder 19: Dooley
- Correspondence between Vockery and Herman Cole, Jackie Wright, Debra Branigan (with attached extensive family group records). Also contains copies of a document entitled "History of Preble County, Ohio" specifically beginning with a chapter about Silas Dooley Sr. (image included), a copy of a deed of conveyance to Jacob Dooley dated 12 March 1810.
- Folder 20: Doolin
- Copies of a family lineage beginning with Johnson Doolin (b. 1804) continuing to the James Doolin family in an article of "The Central Record" dated 28 January 1988 with images of Myrtle Doolin, Addie Doolin, and others.
- Folder 21: Dorney
- Correspondence between Vockery and Clifton Rowland Brooks with an attached death certificate of Marion Clinton Dorney and a family pedigree continuing from Clifton Brooks to Lemuel Brooks (b. 1758).
- Folder 22: Doty
- Correspondence between Vockery and Barbara Ragsdel , W. David Beal (with attached pedigree as well as a newspaper clipping about Samuel Doty and his descendants), Daniel S. Rush, Jay H. White, Donald E. Coones. Also contains a copy of the marriage certificate between John H. Doty and Margaret J. Raystow dated 7 June 1870, a copy of the marriage certificate between Jacob Harlow White and Bettie Doty dated 18 November 1903, a copy of a document entitled "Doty" that lays the lineage of the Doty's beginning with John Doty (m. 1778), a copy of the Birth certificate of JoAnn Doty dated 1 April 1976, and family group records.

- Correspondence between Vockery and Mereda Metz, Jean (or in another place Jeanne) C. Douglas, J. Vance Foster, Linda Douglas. A copy of the family pedigree, extending to David Kirby (b. 1740)
- Folder 24: Downing
- Contains a copy of the "National Genealogical Society Quarterly" dated September 1989 with an excerpted article entitled "Identifying the Revolutionary Soldier: James Downing of Lincoln County, Virginia (Kentucky)" along with a copy of a document of transcription regarding the will of John Downing (d. 14 November 1777).
