Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Harris (b. 1829), a deed of conveyance involving James Harris dated 25 July 1864, and a copy of the last will and testament of Christopher Harris dated 4 March 1794.

Also contains copies of the documentation conveying ownership upon the death of Elijah S. Harris dated 25 May 1883, a copy of John Harris' last will and testament dated 4 January 1868, a document detailing all of the information used to apply for DAR membership on the behalf of Evelyn Wallace, a copy of William Samuel's registration card and pension application from the War of 1812, a deed of conveyance involving James Harris dated 4 April 1854, family group records beginning with Richmond Harris (b. 1762), a copy of a newspaper article dated 1 December 1985 about the Harris family cabin with original photos from the 1890's, a copy of the last will and testament of Christopher Harris dated 4 March 1794, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving several Harris' dated 2 December 1809, a copy of Forrest Calico's notes on the Harris Family, transcriptions of a court record involving Richmond Harris, two copies of a 49 page manuscript entitled "Harris" which bears the Harris family crest and has "J.L. - Contains correspondence between Vockery and Raymond A. Hart and Rebecca Colbert. Also contains a copy of a magazine entitled "Hart Historical Notes" from November and December 1993, and one family group record.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Greg Hill regarding John Davidson Harvey, and other correspondence with Elizabeth Stewart and Lorie Harvey. Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Henry and Susan Hulley, a copy of a newspaper clipping from 22 July 1914, and a few family group records.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Velma Jean Hatfield, Brenda Jones, and Robin Landgren. Also contains several family group records.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Lynn R. Hawkins, Merle V. Day, "Mrs. Roland M. James," and Pat Riddle. Also contains a copy of the last will and testament of Nathan Hawkins dated 4 November 1794, a copy of a document entitled "Hawkins Family in Madison County" which is attached to another document which is a transcription of a court case entitled "Hawkins vs. Hawkins" and is dated 23 June 1813 with its original location indicated in the Garrard County Circuit Clerk's office, along with family group records.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Janet L. Zemanek, Jan Eardley, Rita Hawkins. Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance involving William Hays dated 2 August 1816, a copy of the last will and testament of Charles Haze dated 8 August 1821, family group records, a copy of the transcription of the Garrard County Will book with a highlighted portion indicating the estate of William Hays dated 27 December 1803.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Sandra L. Delaney. Also contains a copy of court minutes involving "B. Heatherley," a copy of a newspaper article which details the discovery of a cemetery in Richmond which holds several members of the Heatherly family, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving James B. Heatherly dated 1 September 1842, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Thomas Heatherly dated 10 December 1842, another deed of conveyance involving James and Thomas Heatherly dated 2 March 1847, a full transcript of those interred in the Heatherly Cemetery on Ogg Lane which was rediscovered in the attached newspaper article.

Also contains family pedigrees, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Sarah Hedrick dated 9 April 1801, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Joseph Hedrick dated 30 October 1823 and another involving Joseph Dedrick dated 10 February 1813.

Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Alexander Henderson dated 8 September 1836, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving John Henderson dated 29 November 1803, another deed of conveyance involving Alexander Henderson dated 21 April 1823, another involving James Henderson and Alexander Henderson dated 9 April 1831, copies of handwritten court minutes involving John R. Henderson dated 31 March 1832, copies of the Garrard County index to deeds book indicating several Hendersons from the years of 1797 through 1882, a copy of an article entitled "Climbing Your Family Tree Can Be Fun" which addresses the Hendersons of Garrard County, many other copies of deeds of conveyance from the early to mid-19th century, a document entitled "Our Henderson Heritage" in which Peggy Henderson Robinson writes a short history of the Henderson family, copies out of a book entitled "History of Garrard County" with highlighted portions indicating a Henderson as a pioneer of the county, and several family group records.
