Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Walter A. Griffith, Bonnie Rankin Arnold, Robert Capps, Billie J. Gelhar. Also contains copies of a book by "Perrin" with the sole title reading "Biographical Sketches" and the page addressing Thomas J. Herring (b. 1836), family group records, a 45-page document entitled "Descendants of William Herring" which indicates the family lineage of William (b. 1745) which is well-documented and includes a bibliography.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Christina (Christy) Hester Blair (with her attached family lineage), along with copies of a deed of conveyance involving Jeremiah Hester dated 25 September 1836.
- Folder 3: Hiatt
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Marcia F. Monking, Dale Castle, Edith Follin, Ina M. Wallace, Marilyn Hiatt Hudgens (Mrs. Robert H. Hudgens), Jane Hielen, Marianne C. Hyatt, and Patricia B. Hensley. Also contains a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Samuel Hiatts dated 3 May 1882, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Elizabeth Hiatt, William Hiatt, Thomas Hiatt, and many other Hiatts dated 5 October 1822, a copy of a document entitled "History of Ancestors of Robert Charlie Bottom and Flora Allen Bruner," a copy of another document entitled "Record of the Hiatt family" which begins with Amos Hiatt (b. 1678), family pedigrees.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Doug Morrison-Cleary regarding the Hickerson family of Madison County specifically in the early to mid 19th century with family group records.
- Folder 5: Hicks
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Mamie F. Hendricks, Louis M. Sutton, Flo Hicks (Mrs. John L. Hicks Jr.), Maurice F. Schulten, Billie Shelton, Stacy Hicks, Roland Hicks Jr., Thomas Green, Laverne Willhite Hicks. Also contains a copy of an article from the Harrodsburg Herald entitled "Great-Grandfather Operated Ferry" which involves Wash Hicks and Amanda Hicks, notes by Forrest Calico regarding the Hicks family, family pedigrees beginning with Thema Vereda Havens (b. 1901), a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Joseph Hicks dated 1 April 1835.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Florence Baker (Mrs. R. Dave Baker). Also contains a copy of a document entitled "The Five Brothers Hieronymus" with attached family group records.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Charlene Joy Lovy. Also contains copies of a deed of conveyance involving Emanuel Higginbotham dated 20 October 1863, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving George Higginbotham dated 4 January 1888, a copy of the last will and testament of John Mitchell dated 28 August 1837, a copy of a 20-page document entitled "Higginbotham Family Newsletter" dated January 1978 which includes family stories and pedigrees, various family group records, a transcription and copy of the obituary of John M. Higginbotham (d. 1902), a copy of a newspaper article entitled "The Higginbotham Legacy," a copy of the obituary of G.T. Higgenbotham, a lengthy lineage entitled "Descendants of Emanuel Higginbotham" and another entitled "Descendants of Emmanuel Higginbotham, Jr."

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Glenda Price (with an envelope including several family lineages), Evelyn Ingham, Helen F. Hill (Mrs. Marvin W. Hill), G.E. Hill, Whayne B. Hill, Al A. Rousseau, Joan Tussey, Bob Cordell, Mary Ferguson Loher, Juanita Crook, and Donald C. Taylor. Also contains a copy of a 108-page book entitled "An Account of the Hill-Evans Feud," a copy of a page entitled "Biographical Sketches" from a book only indicated as "Perrin vol. V" regarding Oliver Perry Hill (m. 1754), a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Malinda Hill dated 10 September 1855, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Frederick Hill and his family dated 22 February 1859, family group records, and a copy of the last will and testament of Bazil Pinkston dated 14 February 1822.

- Folder 12: Hobson
- Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Yom McCullum involving Valentine Harris Hobson (b. 1865) with an attached copy of an article from the Richmond Daily Register dated 6 April 1926 involving Dr. V.H. Hobson.
- Folder 13: Hocker
- Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Joan K. Reaves involving Philip E. Hocker (b. 26 March 1851), with attached documents detailing the descendants of Philip Hocker (d. 1774), a copy of an excerpt from a book entitled "Kentucky Pioneers and their Descendants."
- Folder 14: Hodges
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Anne Crase and Bill Anderson. Also contains a copy of a court document naming Jesse Hodges as administrator of the estate of one deceased William Goodloe dated 22 August 1840 and another copy of the bill of appraisement dated 16 January 1839.
- Folder 15: Hogan
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Lisa J. Schureman, David C. McMurtry, Katherine W. Gilliatt, N. Ruth Wood, Lillian Hogan, Terry M. Hogan, Mary Mitchell (Gravely), and Gary Stuart. Also contains copies of family pedigrees beginning with Overton Penis Hogan Jr. M.D. (b. 1851).
- Folder 16: Hohimer
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Emil Hohimer (with an attached photo of Mildred and Emil Hohimer), William R. Wyatt, and Linda Cook. Also contains family group records.
- Folder 17: Holcomb
- Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Janelle Dowdy Cobb with attached copies of a land survey labelled "Whispering Hills Estates" and a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Thomas and John Holcombe (infants) dated 17 July 1815.
