Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Folder 1: Joslin: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Newton Robison and Peggy B. Chapman regarding the Joslin family in Kentucky in the mid to late 1800's.
Folder 2: "K": Contains correspondence between Vockery and Margaret M. "Peggy" Frazier, Helen L. Tice, Mary Jane Davis and Evelyn Trissell. Also contains family group records.
Folder 3: Kackley: Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Elizabeth F. Qualls regarding James S. Kackley from Missouri in the mid-19th century, with an attached lineage of James Samuel Kackley.
Folder 4: Karr: Contains correspondence between Vockery and "Mrs. Perry" regarding Henry Karr of Madison County in the early to mid 1800's. Also contains a copy of a distribution from the estate of William Karr and a copy of the last will and testament of Gilbert Karr dated 18 January 1825.
Folder 5: Kays: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Marshall E. Kays Jr., Robert J. Reich (with a description of the death of Jesse Kays in 1879). Also contains a copy of the last will and testament of George Kays dated 1 July 1817, a copy of a document entitled "Kays Genealogy" by Charles W. Kays, a copy of a land survey with a highlighted portion indicating the estate of George Keys, and a transcription of the last will and testament of George Kays dated 31 July 1817.
Folder 6: Kelly: Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Thomas W. Kelly regarding the Kelly family in Kentucky from the late 1700's through the mid 1800's, Betty Neu regarding Mary Kelly (b. 1852, d. 1889), and Nicki Beatty Lagoudakis regarding John Kelley (m. 1810).
Folder 7: Kellar: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Philip K. Blumer regarding Isaac Keller and his family in the early 1800's. Also contains a family lineage from Isaac including census information pertaining to him from the 1880 U.S. Census., and Phil and Dorothy Blumer regarding the Kellars from Jefferson County, Kentucky, in the early 1800s.
Folder 8: Kemper (1): Contains correspondence between Vockery and Fay Glenn, Larry D. McCoy, Paul K. Anderson Jr., John A. Morgerson, Sue Clark, Evelyn Williams Wallace, . Anderson Jr. Also contains extensive family group records, a copy of a single page from the book "Garrard County Will Abstracts," a deed of conveyance involving John Kemper dated 26 August 1829, a copy of the last will and testament of John Kemper dated 2 November 1826, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Thornton Kemper dated 8 May 1843, a copy of the last will and testament of Burdett Kemper in which he noteworthily hands down slaves of his to his children despite the date of the will being 7 April 1873, a copy of a book entitled "My Old Kentucky Home" by Octavia Kemper Anderson" published in 1974.
Folder 10: Kerley: Contains a single family group record concerning the family of William Kerley (d. 1828) and a copy of the last will and testament of William Kerley dated 28 August 1827.
Folder 11: Kennedy (1): Contains correspondence between Vockery and Mina Kennedy, Ralph B. Morrison, Peter Kennedy, Jean G. Kennedy, Joseph C. Kennedy, Russ Kennedy, Richard Demeter. Also contains a copy of "Where Uncle Tom's Cabin Stood" which tells the story of the General Thomas Kennedy Plantation, a copy of a newspaper article entitled "Climbing Your Family Tree" which concerns the Kennedy family descending from John Kennedy (b. 1757) and another article of the same name descending from Thomas Kennedy, a copy of a chapter of a book entitled "Kennedy Family" by Alma Lackey Wilson, family pedigrees beginning with David Wells Kennedy (b.1790), a copy of the last will and testament of David Kennedy dated 20 December 1848, extensive family group records and lineages, a copy of a document entitled "The Family Tree: Kennedys" which tells of the descendants of General Thomas Kennedy.

Folder 13: Kidd: Contains copies of Garrard County circuit court documents involving Lucy Kidd and Elizabeth Kidd dated August 1867.
Folder 14: Kidwell: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Mossie L. Garner regarding the Kidwell Family Association in Ohio, as well as other correspondence between Vockery and Judith A. Stevens and Betty L. Woith regarding the marriage of Jonathan Kidwell and Susannah Foster (m 1815).
Folder 15: Kimbrell: Contains a single correspondence between Vockery and Rhonda Kimbrell Holle regarding Joseph Kimbrell (b. 1841, d. 1928).
Folder 16: Kincaid: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Shirley Patchen, Audrey Jones, Mary F. Solomon, Elizabeth Stuerke, and Dennis W. House all regarding the Kincaid family in the 19th century.
Folder 17: Kindred: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Herbert K. Lodder regarding William Kindred of the early 1800's, and a separate correspondence between Vockery and Molly Sieg regarding John Kindred who is also of the early 1800s.
Folder 18: King: Contains correspondence between Vockery and "Jo Ann," Flora Moberly, Barbara Barrow King, Floyd E. Cameron. Also contains a ahnentafel graphs beginning with James Burnside King III (b. 1924), a copy of a deed of conveyance involving M.W. King and his wife dated 6 January 1876, a copy of the last will and testament of Henry King dated 4 March 1817, and several family group records.
