Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.
Collection Historical Note
Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Kinnaird (b. 1856), a copy of a bill of emancipation involving the descendants of William Kinnard dated 14 April 1932, a copy of a newspaper article entitled "James Kinnard is Killed," another copy of a newspaper article regarding James Kinnard's burial, a copy of a directory showing the addresses of all King's living in Hamilton, Ohio, between 1927 and 1928, a copy of the death certificate of Effie L. Kinnard (b. 1883, d. 1929), as well as a copy of the death certificate of James Kinnard (b. 1907, d. 1917), a copy of the marriage certificate of James E. Kinnard and Rhoda E. Sowers dated 20 July 1870, a transcription of a deed of conveyance involving Bill Kinard dated 5 August 1925, a copy of the death certificate of William Kinnard (b. 1881, d. 1953), along with a copy of a newspaper article entitled "Illness Fatal for Wm. Kinnard" dated 29 July 1953, a copy the birth certificate of Mabel Lee Kinnard dated 25 May 1921, a copy of the birth certificate of Sadie Ray Kinnard dated 11 May 1924, a copy of the death certificate of Herman L. Kinnaird (b. 1917, d. 1988) along with a newspaper article addressing his funeral arrangements, a copy of the death certificate of Maude V. Francis (daughter of John E. Kinnard and Effie Agee), a copy of a letter written from David Kinnard to his son William dated 10 June 1847 and another copy of a letter written to William from his brother James Kinnard. Also contains copies of other letters from William's father dated 6 March 1857, 26 December 1868, 5 August 1850, 23 December 1842 (which includes a letter from his sister Helen and brother James), 10 June 1847, and a copy of a document entitled "Kinnaird" which tells a brief history of the Kinnard family back to Scotland in 1791 with an attached family photo that is not labeled, and a family pedigree beginning with William Kinnard in Scotland.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Margaret B. Kinsey (Mrs. Ralph Kinsey) regarding the Hawkins and Leavell families in the late 18th century through mid 19th century. Also contains a document entitled "The U.S. According to Us." by Margaret Biser Kinsey.
- Folder 3: Kirby-Leveridge
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Sylvia Warford Luker regarding several members of the Kerby family, including John Kerby senior and junior, and the family name of Leveridge. Also includes a family chart of the Kerby family; pictures of gravestones for John Kerby, senior; Polly Kerby; John Kerby, junior; and Mary Kerby; a will of conveyance; and a last will and testament.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Thomas L. DeWitt, Barbara L. Wiley, Margaret Martinez, Betty Neu, and Dorothy Rattliff Clements.
- Folder 5: Kuykendall
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Lyndon N. Irwin relating to one Joe Kuykendall. Also includes an obituary for Joe Kuykendall, a family tree, and many notes on the genealogy of the Kuykendalls that were gathered from correspondence between Barbara Holland and the Garrard County Historical Society.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Margaret M Hayes about the family of one William Laws senior and junior; correspondence between Vockery and a woman simply known as Joyce about the death record of one Hugh Leavey; correspondence between Vockery and a woman named Mary L. Roberts requesting the former to send any copied material relating to the Ledford family; correspondence between Vockery and Larry R Lenox about information pertaining to one John J. Lenox; correspondence between Vockery and Carole Brace about the parents of James and Emily Lessly; correspondence between Vockery and Joyce Bishop about the marriage of Alfred Lisle and Susan Bush; correspondence between Vockery and Martha Sutton, the latter of whom is offering to sell an old grade school diploma that belonged to one Julia Mae Lisle of Richmond; correspondence between Vockery and Jo Payne about the name Lochridge; correspondence between Vockery and C. Richard DeVore about the latter's forbearers' marriage records; correspondence between Vockery and Charles B. Lynch about the birth records for one Margaret A. - Contains correspondence between Vockery and Sherry Ryan about the Lake family, with a genealogy of the Lakes family. Also contains correspondence between John T. Logan about the Logan and Kennedy families of Garrard County; and correspondence between Vockery and John O'Neal about one Briant O'Neal.
- Folder 9: Lamb
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Timothy Lamb and Mary Walton about the Lamb family. Also contains several records of the Lamb family and correspondence between James E. Meyers, who seems to have donated many more records about the Lamb family.
- Folder 10: Lambert
- Contains information relating to pensions of Judas and Mary Levi and Matthias and Elizabeth Lambert. Also contains a small note detailing the kin of an unnamed Lambert and the last will and testament of one Matthew Lambert.
- Folder 11: Lancaster
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Norma Webb Broach, Gertrude David (on behalf of Thomas Grinolds), and Cindy Evans about Littleton Lancaster. Also contains correspondence between Vockery and Peggy Kahoilua and Bill Kern about unknown members in the Horn family.
- Folder 12: Land
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Everett O. Couch and Beth Land Beck. Also contains information about John Land and Thomas Land.
- Folder 13: Landram
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Diane E. Greene, in which the latter is seeking an obituary for Williams J. Landram. Also contains a biographical sketch from an untitled book for this William J. Landrum.
- Folder 14: Lane
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Joshua Holland, Walter R. Peak, Patricia M. Hocker, Rosanna Hamilton, Steven Richardson, Lonny Christopher. Also contains information relating to Larkin Lane, a deed of conveyance from Anna M. Walton to Eliot Scott, many documents about the lineage of the Broaddus family, the obituary of Margaret Lane, a marriage license for Sherrod Lane and David Jones, a deed of conveyance from Sidney Lane to Spiller Lane, a family tree listed in the Berea Citizen newspaper, and a handwritten genealogy from Vockery about Millicent Hall.

- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Burns and Barbara King, Ollye S. Reynolds. Also contains court records for the estate of Joseph Lapsley,
- Folder 16: Lawless
- Contains copies of a deed of conveyance from William Lawless.
- Folder 17: Lawson
- Contains correspondence between Vockery and Treva Lawson. Also contains obituaries for John, EJ, and Moody Lawson, a newspaper article about Cash Moody's murder-suicide, a newspaper article about Dan Moody becoming the governor of Texas, a newspaper article about G.W. Moody and his farmhouse, a copy of a deed of partition from Lawson Heins, a copy of the last will and testament from one James M. Cornelison, a copy of the last will and testament from one Richard Cornelison, a copy of an affidavit of descent claiming Robert Settle to be a descendant of John Settle, and a copy of a deed of conveyance from Lillie and Ollie Skinner.
