Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Folder 10: Letcher: Contains correspondence between Vockery and a person who refers themselves as "Joyce". Also contains Ben Letcher's letter of resignation as county clerk, several handwritten documents detailing various children of the Letcher family, a family history detailing the first Letchers to settle and live in Virginia (with the genealogy dating back to around 1740), various members of the Letcher family who lived in Garrard County, and around 60 pages copied from a book called Our Pioneer Ancestors.
Folder 11: Leveridge: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Deborah Lake. Also contains some family history about John Leveridge, and many court records from Madison County.
