Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of the genealogy research files compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery over decades of conducting family research for people around the country. They conducted research in Madison and Garrard Counties, Kentucky. The content of the files includes original correspondence between the Vockerys and researchers and copies of documents that prove various family connections. In rare cases there are original letters and documents that were sent to the Vockerys. This collection would be very helpful for family history researchers in Madison and Garrard Counties.

Collection Historical Note

Kathy Vockery, a retired school counselor, and her husband Bill have written numerous genealogy books on Madison, Garrard and Jessamine Counties in Kentucky. They have found hidden cemeteries, and have transcribed court records, marriage records and vital records. In addition, for many years they have assisted genealogy researchers in finding their Madison and Garrard County roots.

Folder 4: Long: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Vickie Gorby, Wanda Smith, Sandy Park Sosnovich. Also contains a map of the Long Cemetery in Madison County, KY, a copy of a document entitled "Children/Grandchildren of John and Winney Long of Madison County, KY," a family pedigree beginning with Allen Long (b. 1821), a copy of a biographical sketch of Walter A. Long, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Lawrence B. Long dated 15 September 1834.

Also contains family group records, a copy of the deed of conveyance involving Enoch Lunsford dated 16 January 1844, a family pedigree beginning culminating with Joan Sowder (b. 1933), a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Daniel Lunsford dated 16 December 1852.
Folder 10: Lusk: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Opal Lusk Rabalais, "Mrs. J.H. Lusk". Also contains a copy of a document bestowing guardianship of William Lusk to William and Jenning Lusk as the "orphan of Sally Lusk deceased" dated 17 May 1849, a copy of a document which claims that Governor John L. Helm named William Lusk as Sheriff of Garrard County dated 18 November 1850, and family group records.
Folder 11: Lutteral: Contains correspondence between Vockery and Stephen Krou, Melissa Barker, Alma Wiles, William Q. Hill. Also contains a copy of a public notice regarding the estate of John Lutterell (deceased) being taken into chancery court dated 29 November 1822, a copy of a deed of conveyance involving Jesse Luttrell dated 9 August.
