Collection Overview
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The majority of this collection features the genealogical records of the Rice family and other collateral family lines including the Turner and Kennedy families. This collection also contains publications, information, and applications from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Correspondence ranges from debates about different topics to discussions about ancestors. Also includes two books by H. H. Brock titled "Genealogies of our Boggs, Cornelison, Ellison, and Brock Kin" and "Lines to Kith and Kin". This collection also has records of the Rice Family Reunion with all the names of the people who attended.
Collection Historical Note
Fountain Rice (1844-1921), son of Fountain and Malinda Frances Boggs Rice, married Ede Francis (1847-1920), daughter of Thomas and Mary Frances, in 1865. Rice was a farmer in the southern part of Madison County, Kentucky and attended Hays Fork Baptist Church. Several of his daughters were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and their interest in genealogy is represented in the collection. Fountain and Ede had 16 children, including the following:

Most of their children moved to other parts of the country, but many were buried in the Rice lot in the Richmond Cemetery.

- Contains different handwritten, typed, and other documents that discuss information about the DAR and also applications for the DAR. Membership application and documentation for Josaphine Rice Goff, Annie H. Walker, Alma Rice Bascom, and Mary Jane Rice.

- Contains different yearbooks and programs from the Boonesborough and Lexington DAR chapters.
- Folder 7: Diary, 1888
- The diary of a young student documenting their days at school and at home.
- Folder 8: EKU Class Reunion Programs, 1907-1910
- Folder 9: Family Papers
- Contains different handwritten documents concerning the family's history. Correspondents includes George W. Harlan, Ella B. Helm, Edna K. Rice, Sydney Ray White, Ruth Gruffett, and D.L. Pulliam.
- Folder 10: Guardian Bonds for the Children of Silas Rice, 1870
- Two documents from Randolph County, MO and named children are James R., William, Bettie, John R. and Annie Rice.

- Contains the Rice family genealogy papers and family charts, with letters written from and to the Rice family.

- Contains a Robert English pedigree chart, John William Francis, the Rice family, Thomas Howard.

- Contains different handwritten letters. The subject of these letters ranges from having to deal with agreements made between the Rice family and other families, to different marriage records.
