Doctor William Letcher Hockaday was born on July 16, 1843 near Menalus Pike. He graduated from Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, then returned to Richmond, Kentucky where he started a successful medical practice. He also began to breed and produce horses. His most famous being Rex Peavine. He passed on the rights to Rex Peavine and the breeding of him to his son, James Starling Hockaday, upon his death on June 13, 1911. J.S. Hockaday was born November 11, 1881 to Dr. W.L. Hockaday and his wife Louisa. After his father's death, he took over the family horse farm and continued the breeding of Rex Peavine. J.S Hockaday died on December 4, 1946. This collection was donated by Gladys D. Maupin, the granddaughter of Dr. W.L. Hockaday.
