Turpin Funeral Home was founded in the 1890s by W.S. Oldham and was located on the corner of Irvine and Second Street. In 1929 Jack Turpin became a co-owner and the name became Oldham, Maupin and Turpin. Jack Turpin bought Maupin's shares and the named became Oldham and Turpin. James S. Lackey bought Oldham's shares changing the name to Turpin and Lackey. Finally in 1939 Turpin bought out Lackey and the name was changed once more to Turpin Funeral Home.
In 1946 the business moved down the block where it remained until it closed in 2006. Jack Turpin's son Coleman became owner and operator in 1981, and he was joined by his daughter, Paula Turpin Bowman in 1998.
