Scope and Contents of the Materials
These records document the continuous improvement of the Holstein herd at Eastern Kentucky University's Stateland Dairy. The records include production records from various cow families as well as sire performance records. Monthly testing records through the Dairy Herd Improvement Association (DHIA) are available from 1931-1978 except for a gap between 1967 and 1974.
Registration certificates are not included here and cow pedigrees after 1967 are also not included. Some of the production records include photographs of the calves for registration purposes.
Collection Historical Note
Stateland Dairy was founded in 1912 to supplement an Agriculture curriculum that was begun in 1906 and is the second oldest program on campus. It has been in continuous operation since. The current dairy facility houses 120 total animals consisting of day old heifers to mature cows. All animals are registered Holsteins and many can be traced back to 5 cows purchased in the 1920’s. The herd has been continuously registered in an improvement association since 1930.
